Sacred Valley Adventure Activities

Adventurous travelers will not be disappointed by the wide array of adventure activities available in Cusco’s Sacred Valley. For those who would like to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of this area from a different point of view, here are a few suggestions for original adventure activities.

Not far from Macchu Picchu, you will find the exciting Cola de Mono Zipline which will give you an opportunity to admire the beautiful Sacred Valley from above in the trees. With six 300 meter long cables hovering above the valley and propelling you at 60km an hour above the canopy and the Sacsara River, this Zipline offers the opportunity of hours of exhilarating fun. Easily accessible from your Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes hotel, this is a great half day trip in the area. Beware: this is only for audacious travelers who do not fear heights!

You may also want to try exploring the Sacred Valley under a new light via ferrata. Climb up to 300 meters of a rock face before descending over the valley with a Zipline. A via ferrata is a path used to climb a mountain with a permanent safety system. Don’t worry, even if are not an experienced climber, a steel cable will ensure you make it to the top without a scratch. Metal ladders and bridges are used to allow you to climb as high as possible on very steep surfaces in order to catch the best panorama of the Sacred Valley, a well-deserved award after all these efforts.

If you don’t mind getting wet, then river rafting the Urubamba River is for you. Tours take you down Class II and Class III rapids on the raging Vilcanota-Urubamba River on an active, but easy experience during which you will be surrounded by magnificent landscapes. No experience is required for this type of tour, although you can find more intense river rafting opportunities on the river.
